Stone Litho Developer Class - Evening

Stone Litho Development classes consist of bookable individual classes that take place in the evening from 6 - 8.45pm
Lithographer Alastair Clark will lead a series of in-depth demonstrations to aid you in developing your skills in each 2.45 hour session. Through examples, demonstrations and conversations, you will gain an understanding of what is needed to bring your litho to the next level.

This class is for people with recent Stone Lithography experience. Please do not book if you are not familiar with the basics of Stone Lithography.
Topics:
Tuesday 12 November: Transfer Lithography. Explore some of the intriguing ways of working with transfers in stone lithography. Structured with in-depth demonstrations and some hands on activities to aid you in developing your skills through examples. You will gain an understanding of what is needed to bring your litho to the next level.
The course will cover:
• Photocopy transfers • Ink Transfers to stone • Coated transfer paper
Tuesday 19 November:
Reduction Printing and Maniere Noire. Reduction printing is often used as a way of printing several colours from one stone without grinding in between. Maniere Noire is a form of this, working from dark to light, removing ink by either scraping or using etches for more painterly effects.
The course will cover:
• Preparing Flat • Printing flats and blends • Acid biting and reduction printing.
Tuesday 26 November:
Combining Monoprinting with Lithography. Monoprinting can be used effectively in combination with stone and plate lithography. The immediacy and spontaneity of monoprinting can be used to print layers quickly which contrast well with the more controlled mark making available in stone lithography.
The course will cover:
• Flats with Perspex • Wiping Techniques • Printing Blends
Tuesday 3 December:
Printing & editioning Tips. Focusing on various ways of giving your prints that bit extra and looking at ways of printing your work to bring out the character of your drawing. Covering things such as stabilising images to print more consistent editions and covering some of the practicalities required to give you better prints.
The course will cover:
• Prints with borders & paper larger than the stone • Keeping edges clean • Printing with damp paper • Printing stable editions
