Laser Preperation Evening Class

In March and April, join us for this 5-week laser preparation evening class - choose the class you want to attend, and book onto that date. You can add multiple classes to your basket.

Week 1: Tuesday 26th of March -Laser-engraving a monochrome wood or lino block for relief printing

Who's it for: Printmakers with experince in relief printing, as well as Photoshop or Illustrator. No laser experince necessary.

What to bring: 1x greyscale image to be engraved onto a block no bigger than 148mm x 210mm.

In this class, participants will laser engrave and image onto a choice of plywood or linoleum for relief printing.

Week 2: Tuesday 2nd April - Laser-etching a drypoint line on perspex for intaglo printing

Who's it for: Printmakers with experince in intaglio printing, as well as Photoshop or Illustrator. No laser experience necessary.

What to bring: A JPEG of a line drawing in greyscale.

In this class, participants will laser engrave a line drawing onto a sheet of perpex in prepartation for drypoint intaglio printing.

Week 3: Tuesday 9th April -cutting a jigsaw for woodblock relief printing

Who's it for: Printmakers with experince in relief printing, as well as Photoshop or Illustrator. No laser experinece necessary.

What to bring: An idea or an image to draw from. We are going to trace the image into separtate, inkable shapes. The result wil be quite graphic, but photographs can also be applied to this medium.

In this class, printmakers will lasercut a jigsaw block for multi-colour relief printing.

Week 4: Tuesday 16th April Building a collapgraph plate using engraved paper, mountboard and tissue

Who's it for: Printmakers with experinece in intaglio, relief or collagraph printing as well as Photoshop or Illustrator. No laser experinece necessary.

What to bring: Drawing, collage cut-outs, an idea. There will be pre-laser cut materials provided to build your collagraph plate with, but we can also cut out shapes for creating texture at the start of the session.

In this class, participants will use a vartiety of laser cut shapes to make collagraph paltes using paper, mountboard and tissue. We will use the board room to build.glue and scrape into our materials to create textured plates which can later be printed using collagraph printing techniques.

Week 5: Tuesday 23rd April - Multi-block cutting/engraving for relief printing

Who's it for: Printmakers with pexperinece in relief printing, as well as Photoshop or Illustrator. No laser experience neccessary.

What to bring: Bring a drawing or black and white photograph.

In this class, we will trace an A5 image (photograph or drawing, you choice) on a lightbox to create 2-colour separations, like in screen/riso printing. We will then engrave and cut these shapes out of wood for relief printing.
