Cyanotype - Taster Workshop

On Saturday 11 May, learn about Cyanotype or ‘blue print’ - one of photography’s oldest printing methods. Reminiscent of the alchemists of yesteryear, you can use a negative image on acetate, a drawing on tracing paper, or even real objects, to create a stunning image without a camera. Leena Nammari is a Palestinian artist printmaker based in Scotland. She has exhibited within Scotland and Europe, Palestine and Australia as part of group exhibitions, and has had a number of solo exhibitions. She is an expert printmaker, in all aspects of printmaking, and through her ideas are predominantly analysed and broken down through printmaking processes, she has also worked in film, photography, bronze, and ceramics. She obstained her undergraduate degree in Fine Art Printmaking from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee where she also completed her MFA in Arts & Humanities. ABOUT TASTER WORKSHOPS Please note that short Taster workshops are not intended as stand-alone access courses. Due to the short nature of this workshop, we do lots of the preparation for you and streamline the process so you get a finished print at the end of the day. This does mean that you will need more training before you are self-sufficient in this process and are able to work in the studio without assistance. To use Edinburgh Printmakers open access studio facilities, you will need to attend a weekend/evening course or refresher/induction class before becoming a member. How much further training is required is based on each individual’s previous printmaking experience. Book over a month in advance to receive 15% off the course price with our Early Bird tickets!

Printing with Paper Pulp

Paper pulp printing is a beautiful process where you use a silksceen to 'print' with coloured paper fibres onto freshly made sheets of paper. Using no inks, we are printing with fine paper pulp and the image becomes part of the paper. Bring along some of your own drawn or photographic images. Images that work best are linear, or simple and graphic with high tonal contrast. Be sure to wear old clothes and remove jewellery as paper pulp can be messy. You will be putting your arms in water, so please make sure you can roll up your sleeves. Please remember that paper making is wet and messy and participants will be standing for most of the time.
